Roaring From The Soul Of A Lion (1994)
Genre: Soft Rock/Jazz/Folk/World/Roots
The back-story to making Roaring involved intense spiritual growth and planting roots on Salt Spring Island, where I designed and built a new home with my own hands. In this temple for our hearts we took home birthing to a new level with the arrival of our daughter Sappho. She was water-born -“with the dolphins in the ocean.” A profound awareness of the healing power of love and compassion was ripening within me during the early 1990s. It empowered me to overcome a life threatening illness and led to a bountiful harvest of new songs. In Roaring I put my poetry to music, creating songs that celebrate life while rebelling against a materialistic society. Like a Kachina Juggler, a messenger of the Great Spirit, I juggled life’s dualities as I extended my creative potential into new endeavors that tested my mettle. This included balancing the responsibilities of family life, home building and chopping firewood, with film projects, teaching and managing a 24-track-recording studio. At Tall Tree Studios I produced/engineered music for bands, singer/songwriters and the Film/TV industry. On Roaring I experiment with modifying my acoustic guitar sound with special effects and enriched production values. Musical collaborators include, Morry Stearns on lush piano and synthesizers, Jerry Ringrose adds stalwart drums, Hugh MacMillan bounces boldly on bass and Chapman stick, and Scott Sheerin soars on saxophone. These personal journeys related through song, are a way for me to share my insights with others. Success is being able moving people with art. |
